Microsoft has officially announced that it will end updates and support for many Windows PCs on October 14, 2025. This means that after this date, older computers running Windows 10 would no longer receive security updates, bug fixes, or new features.
The move would be a part of Microsoft’s plan to focus on newer versions of Windows, especially Windows 11 and upcoming releases.
The Microsoft Windows update end means that your PC would still work, but it would no longer get important updates from Microsoft.
These updates are necessary to keep the computer safe from new viruses and cyberattacks. Once the updates stop, the device will become riskier to use online.
So, even though your Windows PC support is ending, the files and apps on the computer will still open and work. However, over time, one might notice that some new apps or software will not install or run properly just because they need the latest Windows version.
The Windows October 2025 update deadline is the official cutoff date that has been issued. After this day, Windows 10 will be called an unsupported operating system, which means Microsoft will no longer provide any help or protection for it.
This is similar to what happened earlier when Microsoft ended support for Windows 7 in 2020. Many users continued using it for some time, but they were more vulnerable to security issues.
All computers that still run Windows 10 are affected. Microsoft has been encouraging users to upgrade to Windows 11, which is faster, more secure, and comes with modern features.
But not all old PCs can be upgraded because Windows 11 also has some pre-mentioned strict hardware requirements, like the TPM 2.0 chip and newer processors.
If the computer does not meet these requirements, it will become an unsupported Windows PC after October 2025. That means no Microsoft security updates or feature improvements.
If the PC supports it, one can upgrade to Windows 11 for free. This will help to keep the system fully safe from attacks as well as updated.
But if the computer is too old for the user to use, one can still keep using Windows 10, because it would no longer receive Windows updates or the recent security patches.
Another option is to switch to a whole new and different operating system, like Linux, which is free, and it would also work well on the older devices.
The main reason for ending the Windows 10 support is to make every user move to newer, more secure versions of Windows.
Microsoft says that maintaining older versions slows down innovation and makes it harder to protect users from new types of malware and hacking threats.
