Meta has recently announced that it will now stop supporting the Messenger app, which has been launched on Mac and Windows computers. This means the users would no longer be able to use any of the desktop versions of the Meta Messenger. They won’t be able to use it to send or receive messages.
The company has also said that the change will take place soon, and the users are also being told to switch to the web version of the messenger instead.
According to Meta, the decision has been taken to end the Messenger desktop app, which was made to improve how people use its messaging services. The company now wants to focus more on the Messenger experience that is within Facebook or on mobile devices. It also has plans to make the web version of the messenger faster and more secure.
Users who would now open the Messenger desktop app would see a message that says, “The Messenger app for Mac and PC is no longer available. You can still use Messenger on your browser at messenger.com.”
Meta has also explained that keeping too many versions of the app was very difficult for them and that the number of people who were using Messenger on desktop was much less compared to those on phones.
The Messenger app, which was developed for Mac and Windows, was first launched to help users chat without opening the Facebook web portal of Facebook in a browser. It allowed people to easily send messages, make calls, and even share various files directly from the computer.
But as time passed, most users switched and started using the Messenger on their phones or through the Facebook website.
Meta has also recently said that ending support for Messenger, that is, the desktop app, will also help the company use its resources in a better way. It now wants to focus on improving various mobile features, such as end-to-end encryption, introducing new chat themes, and enhancing syncing between devices.
The company has also mentioned that it is now working on new AI-powered features that will soon come out with its phone and web versions.
