In a major step thats taken recently towards the initiative of transforming India’s toll collection system, Jio Payments Bank has also now won the MLFF (Multi-Lane Free Flow) toll project for the Gurugram–Jaipur highway. The new project has been framed in a way that aims to make highway travelling faster and more efficient by introducing a fully digital and barrier-free toll payment system.
This initiative would also help to get through another milestone in India’s journey toward smart and also take a step in the field of cashless transportation infrastructure.
The Jio Payments Bank MLFF project would also eliminate the need for vehicles to stop at the establised toll plazas, which would thus help in reducing long queues and saving time for passengers.
Instead of the traditional toll booth system, the MLFF setup will now automatically deduct all the toll charges as the vehicles pass through the dedicated toll plaza zones.
The system would also make use of the technologies that include advanced cameras, automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), and RFID technology, which would be used to identify varied vehicles and also process the payments digitally, which would be initiated through linked accounts or wallets.
The Gurugram–Jaipur highway, one of the busiest highways in North India, will be the first major route to experience this advanced system. With altogether thousands of vehicles which would be moving daily between the two cities, the Jio Payments Bank contract also aims to ensure smoother traffic flow and minimal waiting time at toll points.
The introduction of MLFF technology will also help reduce fuel wastage, which is caused while waiting at the tolling gates and lower overall vehicle emissions, thus contributing to greener travel.
Officials who are from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) also said that the decision to award the Jio toll collection project to Jio Payments Bank was based on the company’s proven digital infrastructure and also on the experience of secure payment solutions.
Jio’s advanced network reach as well as the integration capabilities would make it well-suited for managing the high-speed, large-scale toll transactions with reliability and transparency.
The MLFF toll system in India also represents a major shift that too from the manual and semi-automated toll methods to a fully grown digital approach.
The project is expected to start in terms or phases, with trial also being planned before the full practising of all these. Commuters on the Gurugram–Jaipur expressway can now succesfully also look forward to a smoother driving experience, which would lead to the introduction of toll payments and that happening instantly through digital platforms managed by Jio Payments Bank.
Experts also believe that this initiative will set a strong example for future highway projects across the country. Once successfully implemented, the MLFF system could be expanded to other major expressways, making India’s road network more modern and traveller-friendly.
