Google Launches Doppl App With AI Virtual Try On for Clothes

New AI Tool Lets Users See Themselves in Outfits Before Buying, Here’s How Doppl Works

Google has introduced a new experimental app called Doppl, which aims at letting people virtually try on clothes with the help of AI technology. The app, out now on iOS and Android (U.S. only for now), allows users to create a digital version of themselves to see what different outfits might look like with real or even animated video previews.

How Doppl App Works

Doppl’s concept is straightforward, yet its vision for the future is part of some jetpack future. Here’s how users can test it:

  • Step 1: Upload a clear photo of yourself
  • Step 2: Select images of clothes either from online stores, friends’ pictures, or even screenshots from Instagram
  • Step 3: The app uses AI to generate a realistic image of you wearing the selected outfit
  • Bonus Feature: It can also convert static try-on images into AI-generated videos, giving a dynamic view of how the clothing fits and moves

Customers are able to save outfits, view previous try-ons, and share their virtual look with friends and family, providing a more personalized and social shopping experience.

Built on Google’s AI Shopping Experience

The debut of Doppl comes as part of a broader trend from Google to expand its line of smart shopping tools. Last month during the Google I/O 2025 event, the tech firm launched new search AI Mode features enabling you to:

  • Try on billions of clothing items virtually by uploading a photo
  • Get personalised product suggestions based on their style

Doppl takes this a step further by allowing it to be “yourself” (as in, a virtual version of you) rather than a generic model and it helps that online shopping suddenly feels a lot more personal.

Still an Early Experiment

Doppl is coming out of Google’s Labs, so it’s still a work in progress. Already, Google has warned that the AI model won’t always be perfect:

  • Fit and fabric might not reflect reality
  • Colors, textures, and styles may vary

That being said, it’s a cool step forward in making AI more practical in everyday decisions simply including what to wear and if something will look good on you.

AI Mode Expands Beyond the US

Although Doppl is still US-only at the moment, Google is now rolling out its AI Mode feature to users outside the States, including to its users in India. The AI-supported search experience has also added new regions and is presently supported in English and is accessible through the Google Labs.

Outlook: Could Doppl Come to India Next?

While Doppl is restricted to the US for now, Google’s history of releasing features in a phased manner, as was the case of AI Mode, indicates that Indian users might receive it in upcoming builds. The tool could revolutionize the way people shop online at a time when India’s e-commerce and fashion markets are booming.
