Uber has now started testing a new in-app video recording feature in Delhi NCR so as to improve the safety for both the users: riders and drivers.
This feature also allows the driver to record the trip using their phone’s camera directly through the Uber app. The goal is mainly to make rides safer and even to provide the proper evidence in case something goes wrong during a journey.
The video recording feature has been deployed in a way that works in a simple way. Drivers can switch on the camera option just before the ride begins.
The recording then continues throughout the trip. Importantly, the video is stored securely on the driver’s device, and the video is protected so that it cannot be accessed by anyone else unless a safety complaint is filed.
Uber can then review the footage to understand what happened and take the necessary and needed action.
This feature is also being tested because many safety concerns have been reported in various busy areas like Delhi NCR.
Uber also wants to build more trust by giving both the riders and the drivers an extra layer of security. Knowing that the ride is being recorded while the passenger is in there may help prevent unwanted behaviour and make both parties feel more comfortable.
Uber has already been using the feature of audio recording in India, and the video tool is also an extension of that safety effort.
Users will also be informed through the app if their ride is being recorded. This is also something that helps maintain the overall transparency and also helps to ensure that people know when the feature is active.
If the pilot program in Delhi NCR goes well, Uber may also expand the video recording feature to other cities in India.
The company right now also believes that the technology can play a big role in improving the safety of the users and even creating a better experience for everyone.
With this new step, Uber now basically aims to strengthen trust and make everyday travel for all its passengers more secure for millions of users.
