Google Chrome Adds Autofill Support for ID and Passport Details

Google Chrome Adds Autofill Support for ID and Passport Details

Google Chrome has recently introduced a new autofill feature that now allows users to securely save and even automatically fill in their ID and passport details when completing online forms.

The feature is a part of Chrome’s latest update, which has been aimed at improving the convenience and even streamlining form-filling experiences for all the frequent travellers, online shoppers, and even the professionals who often need to enter identification details for verification purposes.

With this update, users can now store all the key information such as passport numbers, national ID details, and document expiry dates, that too, directly in Chrome’s autofill settings.

Similar to how Chrome have already been handling saved addresses and even the payment methods, the browser can now also automatically fill in these details when prompted to do so by the users on trusted websites.

This enhancement helps to reduce the time spent manually when the user is typing lengthy identification numbers while maintaining high security standards.

Google has now assured users that the stored ID and passport information will be encrypted locally and even protected by device-level authentication, such as the fingerprint or face unlock.

This means sensitive data cannot be accessed without the proper user consent. Additionally, users will now have full control to edit, view, or even they can delete saved information at any time through Chrome’s settings menu.

The feature is currently rolling out in phases across all the devices, namely, Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS, starting with select regions.

Google also plans to expand support globally over the coming months as part of its continued efforttoo enhance Chrome’s smart autofill ecosystem.

Experts also believe this update will be particularly useful for all the travellers who frequently help to fill out visa forms, online check-ins, or government verification pages.
