YouTube Updates Policies on Gaming and Gambling Videos from Nov 17

YouTube has recently announced significant updates to its previous policies regarding various aspects of gaming and gambling videos. These new regulations are set to take effect from November 17.

The platform also aims to make its community safer while at the same time ensuring compliance with legal regulations and even promoting responsible content creation.

These updates are designed in a way that they would affect creators, advertisers, and viewers alike, majorly and particularly those who are producing content related to the area of online gambling, betting, or competitive gaming.

Under the new rules that have been set by them, YouTube will tighten its restrictions on various gambling-related content.

Videos promoting the concept of online casinos, sports betting, or even other high-risk gambling activities may now face stricter rules regarding the age restrictions or the impact of limited monetisation opportunities.

Creators will now also be required to clearly indicate if the content involves gambling or real-money betting, and non-compliance regarding this could also result in demonetization or removal of videos.

These changes would help align with YouTube’s ongoing efforts, which they are currently making to protect younger audiences and vulnerable users from potentially harmful material.

Gaming content would also be a field that would be impacted by the updated guidelines. Videos which has been showcasing loot boxes, various in-game purchases, or even the concept of simulated gambling mechanics will be monitored more closely.

Advertisers will now also see and come across various updates, as YouTube plans and has been putting efforts to restrict ads on videos that do not meet their newly deployed compliance standards.

This ensures that brands are not at all on the side of promoting gambling content to inappropriate audiences.

Additionally, YouTube’s community guidelines would also now provide clearer definitions and even examples, which would thus help creators understand what is permitted on social platforms, reducing ambiguity in content moderation.
