Meta has also introduced a new feature in its social media platform Threads named Ghost Posts that enables the users to post temporary updates that expire automatically after 24 hours.
With the feature, it is hoped that users can be more spontaneous and dynamic with Threads without feeling like a permanent post will be effective, as the activities may disappear at any time.
This action brings Threads to its competitors, such as Instagram and Snapchat, where disappearing content is a trendy approach by users to share their experiences in a casual manner.
Through Ghost Posts, Meta is looking forward to capturing younger audiences who are reluctant to engage with permanent posts on social media but not temporary content.
Letting Threads Get More Intriguing
Ghost posts, according to Meta, are aimed at enhancing more open and authentic communication.
Through this, users can leave opinions, images, or any short snippets that will appear on their profile and their feed but are short lived due to their expiration after one day.
The posts will be automatically deleted within 24 hours from the poster and feeds of followers.
The company described that the Ghost Posts will not be shown in the search, recommendation, or discovery pages in Threads, which guarantees a feeling of exclusivity and privacy.
This allows the users greater control over the type of information they keep on their profile and the information that disappears and minimizes the long term effects of a casual or impulsive post.
The team at Meta responded that the mode was added after much feedback about the user needing to have the option of posting with low pressure.
A number of users expressed that they enjoyed interacting more on threads but were afraid of leaving comments publicly, as they felt that it was irreversible.
Ghost Posts is a direct response to that concern, providing a more comfortable experience of posting, which is less permanent.
Increasing Level of User Traffic and User Retention
Categories Threads is steadily gaining momentum as one of the alternative products that Meta replaces X (previously Twitter).
The platform is dedicated to friendly conversation and connection with the community, yet the activity of users has sometimes been unstable.
The goal of introducing Ghost Posts is to make Threads more engaging and in the moment and encourage more people to participate.
Analysts in the industry believe that the feature has the potential to dramatically improve the retention of users, particularly the youthful ones, who are used to the disappearance of stories and messages.
It may also create more spontaneity, as individuals would be able to get quick feedback or any trending discussion or funny response similar to ghost posts with no burden of permanency.
More customization can be added according to hints by Meta, such as control over the visibility of posts, stickers, and the possibility to write away Ghost Posts privately.
The company will also test analytics tools to enable creators to view a give of engagement metrics at expiry of the post.
Ghost posts are now available all around the world on iOS- and Android based Threads.
The option is available on the posting menu, where users will also notice a ghost icon that indicates the 24-hour to live period in the option.
Spontaneity with privacy is how Meta is framing Threads as a more adaptable and expressive one that is more in line with the consumers’ need to not talk about anything, whether it is urgent/moderate/no hurry, in digital conversations today.
