Microsoft has recently warned that countries like Russia and China are now using artificial intelligence. They are using AI to make their cyberattacks on the United States more powerful and make that even harder to detect.
In a new report that has been published, the company has also said that the hackers that are linked to these countries are now using AI tools, which would be used to write better phishing emails, even create fake identities, and even generate deepfake content, which would be used to mislead people and even break into secure systems.
According to the recent reports of Microsoft, more than 200 cases have been recently found related to AI-assisted cyber activity in July 2025 alone. These cases have been more than double the number from the previous year and even ten times more than in 2023.
The company has also said the attackers who are involved in this are improving their techniques by using the AI chatbots and even language models which would be used to make their fake messages sound fully natural and even professional.
Russia has been reportedly using AI, basically to help spread misinformation about the war related things in Ukraine. Not just this, its also using AI to attack Western infrastructure, thus, including energy and transportation systems.
China, on the other hand, has been said to be focused on influencing the upcoming elections in the United States and even of the other democratic countries, that too, by spreading false news and even fake social media posts.
North Korea and Iran are also one of those countries who are also using AI to support the varius misuses like spying and hacking operations, and even sometimes creating fake online workers so as to gain access to the confidential foreign systems.
Microsoft has even said that many American organisations are still the ones that are unprepared for this new wave of attacks. Old security systems in the line and even the weak cybersecurity training would be something that would make it easier for hackers so as to succeed.
The company has even urged governments and businesses to strengthen their defences against the misuse of AI and to use AI responsibly for the protection of the country, rather than harm.
The United States still remains the top target of these cyberattacks, followed by some other countries like Israel and Ukraine.
