Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas has already come up and warned iPhone users not to install any app called Comet. This is a app which would be currently available on the Apple App Store. He said that the app is fake, unsafe, and has no roots with Perplexity. The real Comet app which has been designed for iOS has not been released yet.
The warning came just after the users noticed an app named Comet or something similar in the App Store. Just after that it was assumed it was from Perplexity.
Srinivas also finally posted on social media saying, “The Comet app currently on the App Store is fake and spam. It is not from Perplexity.”
In this statement he also mentioned that another fake app called Cornet AI is also the one which is pretending to be the real Comet. This fake apps have been using a similar name, logo, and even have their claims to be powered by Perplexity.
Aravind Srinivas has now requested all the iPhone users to delete the fake Comet app immediately, by chance if they have already installed it. He has also advised them to look out if they see any suspicious activity on their phones, such as any strange pop-ups lately or any privacy related issues.
Perplexity’s real deployed app which is the Comet app is already available for all the Android users. The company has also said that once the iOS version is ready, they will themselves come up on platforms and officially announc it through Perplexity’s verified channels.
Users would then be easily able to safely download the application or pre-register for the app.
Experts have also warned that the fake apps can be harmful. They might steal many personal information, access the saved contacts, or even themselves install the malware on the phones. These apps also often look very real but can tend to cause serious security and privacy risks.
That’s why rinivas himself came up on the platform and wanted to alert users early before more people downloaded the fake version.
For now, iPhone users are very much advised to wait for Perplexity’s official announcement. They should not trust any application they see online even if that claims to be Comet unless it comes directly from the verified Perplexity developer account.
