OpenAI Removes Martin Luther King Jr. Videos From Sora at Estate’s Request

OpenAI has finally now stopped allowing its users to make any further videos of Martin Luther King Jr. on its AI video tool Sora. This decision have came just after King’s estate had asked the company to remove or make a pause while generating these videos.

The estate also felt that some of the AI-generated clips were very derrogatory for Dr. King’s image and wass also giving misleading messages.

OpenAI have also said that it had now agreed to the request and have paused all the videos that were related to Martin Luther King Jr. and was made content on Sora. The company have also added that it will now allow authorized bodies of other public figures to ask for the same.

This means if someone owns the rights and they kind of like any person or any idol, they can straight away ask OpenAI to prevent Sora from generating videos of that person.

The company also explained that it wants to balance the creativity of the population but with due respect. While Sora is a platform that lets people create realistic AI videos, OpenAI have also admitted that using real and historical figures without their consent or anyone related to them can lead to problems.

Some users had also now made AI videos that portrayed Dr. King in ways that now his family founds inaccurate or inappropriate.

In response, OpenAI have replied that it is working on  the side of stronger safety measures and will impose new rules for its video tool. These changes will be done by them to stop any future disrespectful or misleading content from being made in the future.

Experts have also said that this issue raises important questions about how artificial intelligence should be trained to handle famous figures from history. Many also now believe that AI should not recreate people’s voices or faces without proper permission, especially when they are no longer alive or are between the population.

By pausing the recent MLK Jr. videos on Sora, OpenAI had shown immense respect toward the estate’s wishes and also to protect Dr. King’s legacy. The move have also highlighted that a bigger discussion about ethics in AI and how various technology companies should train and manage the AI tools is done.
